Former La Jolla Country Day School Coach Accused of Sexual Abuse

Thumbnail image for prasad.jpgSAN DIEGO - The San Diego Union Tribune reported today that a former coach at La Jolla Country Day School has been charged with 13 felony counts of sexual abuse, including a lewd act upon a child 14 or 15 years of age, and sodomy of a person under 16 by a person over 21. Vijay Prasad, a fencing coach at UC San Diego, will be arraigned Thursday. Judge David Szumowski set Prasad's bail at $200,000. If convicted, Prasad faces 11 years in state prison, according to a 10 News report. Further details about the allegations were not immediately available.

8 Injured in San Carlos Car Crash

SAN DIEGO - According to multiple news reports, roughly eight people suffered injuries after a horrific two-car accident in San Carlos Tuesday. The collision occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Lake Badin Avenue near Jackson Drive. Police at the scene said a father and his three children - aged 1, 7, and 11 - were in an SUV traveling east on Lake Badin Avenue when it was struck by a Dodge Charger carrying five people - possibly all teens.

Two Pedestrians Struck by Car in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS -- According to the San Diego Union Tribune, a woman and child were injured Tuesday after they were struck by a car while attempting to cross a street in San Marcos. The accident happened just after 3 p.m. on West San Marcos Boulevard near Pico Avenue. A medical helicopter arrived at the scene to transport one or both victims to a hospital. No other information regarding this terrible pedestrian accident was released.

UPDATE: According to an updated report provided by the San Diego Union Tribune, two women and a child were struck by a car on Tiger Way near Positive Place. The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old woman, stopped at the scene. The two pedestrian women, ages 61 and 40, complained about pain and were taken to Palomar Hospital in Escondido. The child - a 3-year-old girl - was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital with unspecified injuries.

San Diego police said that the driver of a silver Mazda sedan is believed to have caused the crash that occurred at about 3:05 p.m., and indicated he may have been drinking and driving.

Following this horrific accident, the driver of the Mazda - 29-year-old Kaleb Clark - ran away after arriving at the hospital. His passenger, whose name was not released, was taken to UCSD with life-threatening injuries. The occupants in the second vehicle - a 3-year-old and 4-month-old baby - sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to UCSD Hospital. The mother of the children and the occupants in the third vehicle were not injured after the incident.

According to police, the 40-year-old male driver of a Honda Civic was stopped at a stop sign, and began to drive into the intersection when the boy on the bicycle went off the sidewalk and in front of the car. After the young boy was struck, he was dragged roughly 5 to 10 feet. Following the collision, the boy suffered head injuries, a bruised lung, and abrasions, and was taken to Rady Children's Hospital for further treatment.

Four People Injured in San Diego Pit Bull Attack

The girl was bit while playing with the owner of the dog's daughter. The child received several stitches in her face and also suffered a wound to her arm. The owner and his daughter were also bit, while trying to restrain the pit bull after the bite. The dog was taken to the Gaines Street Animal Shelter, where it was put under observation, and tested for rabies. While under observation, the officials will take into consideration how many times the animal has attacked, the severity of the wounds, and how responsible the owner is. These factors will determine whether or not the dog will be euthanized.

Child Cyclist Struck by Pickup Truck in Ramona

According to CHP reports, the boy was not wearing a helmet and was riding against traffic when he was struck at 1:41 p.m., near the corner of 10th and Main Street. He was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital following the accident. The cause of the August 9th Ramona bicycle accident remains under investigation. According to the North County Times, officers found no evidence that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Six-Year-Old Girl Struck By Boat Near Fiesta Island

fiestaislandsd.jpgSAN DIEGO COUNTY - On Saturday, August 6, 2011, a six-year-old girl was rushed to Rady Children's Hospital after being run over by a boat, reports 10 News. The girl, identified as Neve Walker, was being pulled by a Sea Doo on an inner tube with her brother near Fiesta Island when a boat approached the Sea Doo from behind and veered directly into the path of the children. The boat struck the inner tube, causing Walker to fall off, and then preceded to run over her. The victim's brother escaped injury, but the young girl suffered multiple rib fractures, a collapsed lung, and cuts and bruises. According to the young girl's father, a police report had been filed but, as of yet, no charges had been pressed and no citations has been issued against the boat driver.

Elderly Man Killed By Teen Driver on Sea World Drive

seaworlddriveingrahamstreet.jpgSAN DIEGO - A 77-year-old San Diego County man tragically died after his vehicle collided with a SUV driven by a 15-year-old boy early Thursday morning in Mission Bay, 10 News reported. According to the San Diego Union Tribune and San Diego County Medical Examiner reports, the boy, driving his parents' Toyota 4Runner without their permission, backed into a 1979 Mercury LTD driven by James Cummins, 77 of Point Loma.

Prior to the accident, shortly after midnight, the teen boy was headed westbound on Sea World Drive when he missed his exit to Ingraham Street. He threw the car into reverse and started backing up with he collided with Cummins' Mercury.

Cummins was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he died at about 4:45 a.m. The teen boy, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, reportedly ran away from the scene in hid in the bushes, but police located him nearby. His parents were contacted and came to the crash scene. 10 News reported that the Toyota SUV involved in the collision was registered to Elvira and Octavio Acevedo

Cause of the July 7th Mission Bay Crash

Based on the information provided in news accounts, it appears that the teenager caused this accident by driving the wrong-way (in reverse) on Sea World Drive. 10 News reported that alcohol was found on the vehicle, but investigators did not believe the teen had been drinking. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the San Diego Police Department traffic division.
