Man Tragically Killed in Chula Vista Bicycle Accident

CHULA VISTA --Bicycle grip.jpg According to 10 News, a 77-year-old man struck a bicyclist with his car just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The tragic Chula Vista incident happened on Fourth Avenue when the driver was exiting a parking lot at Rice Elementary. The bicyclist, whose name is being withheld, was taken to a local hospital, where died about an hour later from his injuries. Lt. Eric Thunberg indicated that it is not clear if the driver was an employee at the school, however, he reported that the bicyclist apparently had the right of way at the time of the collision.

Pedestrian Injured in Chula Vista Hit-and-Run Accident

Otay Lakes Rd and Elmhurt St - Chula Vista.pngCHULA VISTA -- According to the San Diego Union Tribune, a female pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Chula Vista. The accident was reported about 5:43 p.m. Thursday, when Gloria Serrano, 44, was struck by a car while she was attempting to cross east on Otay Lakes Road at Elmhurt Street. Serrano sustained traumatic injury to her right arm and was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The vehicle involved in the crash is described to be a silver Hyundai or Kia sedan with damage to the vehicle from the accident, including a broken passenger side headlight and a missing right side view mirror. Cause of the Hit-and-Run Crash

Based on the information provided by the San Diego Union Tribune, it is unclear what caused the driver to hit the pedestrian crossing the street. But, regardless of what could have caused this collision, there is no excuse for fleeing the scene of an accident. Under the California Vehicle Code Section 20001(a): "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.
