Man Tragically Killed in Chula Vista Bicycle Accident

CHULA VISTA --Bicycle grip.jpg According to 10 News, a 77-year-old man struck a bicyclist with his car just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday. The tragic Chula Vista incident happened on Fourth Avenue when the driver was exiting a parking lot at Rice Elementary. The bicyclist, whose name is being withheld, was taken to a local hospital, where died about an hour later from his injuries. Lt. Eric Thunberg indicated that it is not clear if the driver was an employee at the school, however, he reported that the bicyclist apparently had the right of way at the time of the collision.

The accident was reported about 5:43 p.m. Thursday, when Gloria Serrano, 44, was struck by a car while she was attempting to cross east on Otay Lakes Road at Elmhurt Street. Serrano sustained traumatic injury to her right arm and was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The vehicle involved in the crash is described to be a silver Hyundai or Kia sedan with damage to the vehicle from the accident, including a broken passenger side headlight and a missing right side view mirror. Man Injured in Chula Vista Motorcycle Accident

Palomar St and Industrial Blvd - Chula Vista.pngSAN DIEGO COUNTY - A 35-year-old Chula Vista motorcyclist was critically injured after colliding with an SUV at about 4:55 p.m. Saturday. 10 News reported that the accident occurred at the intersection of Palomar Street and Industrial Boulevard when the driver of a Jeep Liberty made a left turn in front of the motorcyclist.

According the Chula Vista Police Lt. Dan Hardman, the motorcyclist could not avoid the collision, and therefore, struck the side of the vehicle. After this devastating crash, the motorcyclist, whose name was not immediately available, suffered serious injuries and was transported to UCSD Medical Center for further treatment.

One Killed, Two Severely Injured in Chula Vista Car Crash

Hunte and Eastlake pkwys.pngCHULA VISTA -- A horrific solo vehicle accident at the intersection of Eastlake and Hunte parkways left one person dead and two others seriously injured Friday morning. According to 10 News, the driver of a car traveling west on Hunte Parkway failed to make a turn onto Eastlake Parkway, which then caused the vehicle to crash into a guardrail and down a 100-foot embankment.

Following the crash, one person was airlifted to a local hospital and another person was taken to a hospital via ambulance. The third occupant in the car, who was the rear seat passenger, was reported to have died at scene. And according to a press release provided by the San Diego County Coroner, the deceased individual was is identified as Rebecca Anne Mabunay, 23, of Chula Vista.

Several Injured in Head-on Collision on Otay Lakes Road

Another head-on collision on Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista has sent several people to the hospital, News 8 and 10 News both reported Sunday. The accident happened at about 10:45 a.m. on Otay Lakes Road near Lower Otay Reservoir on Sunday, December 5, 2010. According to CHP reports, a white car travelling at high speeds crossed double yellow lines and collided with a gray SUV. Several people were taken to the hospital with major injuries. Both vehicles had to be towed from the accident scene.

Victim of Chula Vista Pedestrian Accident Identified

chulavistaebmain.jpgA man who was struck and killed by a teen driver in Chula Vista Thursday night has been identified as Elden G. Thorson, 53. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, Thorson was apparently a homeless man living in the Chula Vista area. On Thursday, June 3rd, he was crossing the 3000 block of Main Street at about 10:20 p.m. when he was struck by a tan Toyota Camry.

The San Diego Union Tribune reported that the 16-year-old driver of the Camry was not injured and stopped to try and help Thorson, who died at the scene. The teen driver was not charged. Chula Vista Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Jogger Struck by Out-of-Control Vehicle in Chula Vista

telegraphcanyoneb.jpgA 35-year-old man was rushed to Scripps Mercy Hospital Saturday morning after being struck by an out-of-control vehicle while jogging in Chula Vista, 10 News reported. The accident occurred on Monday, May 31st, just before 8 a.m. on the south side Telegraph Canyon Road, about 100 yards west of Paseo Ladera.

The San Diego Union Tribune said the jogger, who was not identified, did not see the Nissan Sentra before it came over the curb and struck him. The injured man was taken to the hospital with head trauma and possible bone fractures, but is expected to survive. Police said they are investigating why the driver lost control of the vehicle. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident, and the driver was not cited or arrested at the scene.

Based on the limited information provided in news reports, it is not clear why this accident occurred. Motorcyclist Injured After Suspected DUI Crash in Chula Vista

hand-cuffs.jpgA 28-year-old woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a crash in Chula Vista, the San Diego Union Tribune reported. The accident occurred at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Main Street at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 29th. Authorities believe the 28-year-old woman ran a red light, resulting in the collision with a man on a motorcycle. The woman kept driving but was apprehended. The motorcyclist, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with bone fractures and other injuries. Police found methamphetamine in the woman's vehicle. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Five Hospitalized After Chula Vista Intersection Crash

CBS 8 News reported this morning that five people, including two young children, were taken to local hospitals after an intersection accident Tuesday evening in Chula Vista. The May 25th injury accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on East H Street at the intersection of the Interstate 805 onramp. According to reports, an SUV stopped at a red light was rear-ended by a work truck. Police said the driver of the truck was speeding.

The impact of the collision sent the small SUV nearly 100 feet forward. The rear of the vehicle was pushed into the back seat where the two young children were seated. The parents of the children were also injured. The driver of the work truck was flown to UCSD Hospital along with one of the other victims. The other injured victims were taken to hospitals by ambulance. Chula Vista police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the rear-end collision.

The San Diego Union Tribune reported that the three vehicles were involved in the collision. It is unclear how the third vehicle was involved and if anyone else was hurt.
