At Least Six Students Injured in Oceanside School Bus Accident

schoolbuseb.jpgA school bus carrying El Camino High School students overturned Wednesday morning in Oceanside, NBC News reported. The accident occurred on El Camino Real at North Douglas Drive at about 11:20 a.m. The school bus, which was was carrying 23 students that were part of a tutoring program for local elementary schools, turned on its side after it collided with a small white sedan.

One of the students was airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The bus driver and five other students were taken to local hospitals by ground ambulance. The cause of the crash remains under investigation; it was not immediately clear who was at fault.

On-Duty Bus Driver Arrested on Suspicion of DUI in Encinitas

The San Diego Union Tribune reported that a bus driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Tuesday afternoon in Encinitas. According to the NC Times, a passenger on the North County Transit District (NCTD) bus, which was on route 309 from Oceanside to Encinitas, called the Sheriff's Department after observing the driver making unscheduled stops and pulling over to urinate in the bushes.

Sheriff's deputies stopped the bus at about 4:29 p.m. at 479 Encinitas Blvd. After conducting a field sobriety test, deputies arrested the 40-year-old driver on suspicion of driving a commercial vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was booked at the Vista Detention Facility.

The bus driver, David Joseph Costello, is employed by First Transit, a private Ohio-based company contracts with the NCTD and other transit districts across the country for bus drivers. In a statement, the NCTD's executive director said, "We take this allegation seriously, and we will be very aggressive in investigating and taking whatever action is necessary to prevent a reoccurrence of this event."

Arizona Students Injured in School Bus Crash in Golden Acorn Casino Parking Lot

schoolbus.jpgEleven students were injured Tuesday morning when their school bus was struck by a car in the parking log of Golden Acorn Casino in Campo, Cal Fire reported.

The accident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. Further details about the crash were not availblable, and it was not clear why the accident occurred or who was responsible. The bus was from Yuma, Arizona, San Diego 6 News reported.

Golden Acorn Casino, located on the Campo Indian Reservation, is just west of the Imperial Valley Sand Dunes, off Interstate 8 at the Crestwood Summit exit in San Diego County. The casino includes a truck stop, which is a popular stop for big-rigs, buses, and other vehicles travelling to San Diego from Arizona and Imperial County.

Nine People Hurt in City Heights Bus Crash

bus.jpgNine people, ages ranging from 18 to 51, suffered minor to serious injuries Wednesday afternoon when a Mitsubishi Eclipse collided with a Metropolitan Transit System bus in City Heights, authorities reported. The accident happened at the intersection of 37th Street and University Avenue, at about 3:40 p.m., police reported. The red Mitsubishi apparently was heading south on 37th and ran a stop sign and struck the bus, which was headed east. The car spun out following the collision, and the driver attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle. The car, which had major damage, stalled out, and the driver fled on foot. Police found an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle.

We hope that everyone injured in this accident make a full recovery from their injuries, and that none of their injuries are catastrophic.

Child Taken to Hospital After School Bus Crash in Santee

school-bus.jpgA child passenger on a school bus was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries after the bus was struck Friday morning in Santee, the California Highway Patrol said. The crash occurred around 8 o'clock Friday at the intersection of Carlton Oaks Drive and West Hills Parkway in Santee. According to the CHP, only one child was hurt. Six other students on the bus were not injured.

Based on the reports of this accident, the cause of the crash is unclear.
