fiestaislandsd.jpgSAN DIEGO COUNTY - On Saturday, August 6, 2011, a six-year-old girl was rushed to Rady Children's Hospital after being run over by a boat, reports 10 News. The girl, identified as Neve Walker, was being pulled by a Sea Doo on an inner tube with her brother near Fiesta Island when a boat approached the Sea Doo from behind and veered directly into the path of the children. The boat struck the inner tube, causing Walker to fall off, and then preceded to run over her. The victim's brother escaped injury, but the young girl suffered multiple rib fractures, a collapsed lung, and cuts and bruises. According to the young girl's father, a police report had been filed but, as of yet, no charges had been pressed and no citations has been issued against the boat driver.

Cause of the Fiesta Island Boating Accident

Although the official cause of the accident has not been released, police are investigating why the boat operator ran directly into the path of the children. It is possible the boat operator could have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs or was simply not paying attention. Another possible reason for the accident could be operator inexperience.

Man Tragically Killed in Fiesta Island Boating Accident

fiestaisland.jpgSAN DIEGO COUNTY - A man was tragically killed in a Fiesta Island boating accident Sunday evening, reports NBC San Diego. According to San Diego Lifeguards, the man was in an inner tube being towed by a boat when he fell off and disappeared. Friends of the victim located his life jacket, but were unable to locate the man, whose identity has not been released. The man's friends contacted lifeguards shortly before 6:00 pm, minutes before he was discovered faced down in the water by another vessel. Before transporting him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, emergency crews tried to revive the man at the scene of the accident for 20 minutes. Lifeguards are currently investigating the cause of the July 24, 2011 accident, but believe faulty inner tube equipment or improper life vest fastening may have contributed to the man's tragic death.
