SAN DIEGO -- A car collision involving several vehicles killed two people Saturday at about 3:15 a.m. on Interstate 15 near Mira Mesa, 10 News reports. According to multiple news reports, the big collision consisted of four separate collisions. The first happened when a stalled vehicle on the freeway was rear-ended by another vehicle. The second occurred when a car driven by 34-year-old off-duty San Diego police officer Jason Prokop sideswiped the stalled vehicle. The third collision happened when two other vehicles swerved and crashed as they tried to avoid the accidents. And the fourth happened when Prokop got out of his vehicle to attend the occupant in the stalled car and then was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Following this tragic accident, two people were reported to have died at the scene: Officer Prokop and another person whose identity was released. The names and the conditions of the occupants in the other vehicles involved in the crash were not immediately available.

Based on the information provided by news reports, it is unclear who may be at fault for this horrific collision. Therefore, the California Highway Patrol will be investigating this multi-vehicle accident and determine what could have caused this collision and who is officially responsible.
