SAN DIEGO COUNTY - An 85-year-old Ramona man tragically died of his injuries on Saturday, February 12, 2011, one day after he was hit by a pickup truck in Ramona, the Ramona Sentinel reported. The car vs. pedestrian accident occurred at 7:47 a.m. on February 11, 2011, at the intersection of Main Street (State Route 78) and Seventh Street. The victim, Manuel Alba, 85, suffered broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, and a major head injury. He was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center where he died Saturday. The cause of the fatal Ramona pedestrian accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol - El Cajon office.
Cause of the Ramona Pedestrian Accident
The CHP reported that Alba was walking northbound on Seventh Street crossing Main Street on a green light. At the same time, Kenneth Moryko, 24, of Ramona, was driving northbound on Seventh Street in a Ford F250 pickup truck towing a wood chipper. He turned southbound onto main on a green light. Reportedly due to the sun in his eyes, he failed to see Alba and struck him.
