IMPERIAL COUNTY - A two-car collision Thursday afternoon in El Centro left three people with moderate injuries, KXO Radio reported. According to the CHP, the crash was reported at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2010, at the intersection of Forrester Road and Ross Road. Monica Ahumada, 21, of El Centro, was driving westbound on Ross Road at a "high rate of speed," while at the same time, Ramon Valdez, 35, of Cathedral City, was driving southbound on Forrester Road at about 45 miles per hour. Ahumada noticed the stop sign as she neared the intersection, but was not able to stop in time. Her aggressive braking caused the front wheels on her vehicle to lock. Ahumada's vehicle entered the intersection at the same time as Valdez's vehicle (Valdez did not have a stop sign). Ahumada, Valdez, and a passenger in Valdez's vehicle, Clemente Munoz, 57, were taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center.
Cause of the Crash
If news accounts of this crash are accurate, Ahumada is likely responsible for the collision for failing to stop at the El Centro intersection. However, the incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Car Accident Personal Injury Liability
If the CHP determines that Ahumada is responsible for causing the collision, she may be liable for the injuries sustained by Valdez and Munoz, including their medical expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering, and other damages. After a injury collision such as this one, it would be advisable for the victims to contact a California car accident lawyer about the crash and their legal rights, options, and obligations to pursue compensation for their injuries. An experienced El Centro personal injury attorney can review the cause of the accident, and advise the victims of their best course of action to protect their rights and recover maximum compensation for their injuries.
