San Diego police arrested a caretaker on suspicion of elder abuse Thursday after an 83-year-old Palm City woman was found dead in her bathroom. According to 10 News, a relative from Napa contacted police before 11 a.m. to request a welfare check on the elderly woman. Officers went to the woman's home on Citrus Avenue and discovered her body in a bathroom. There reportedly no signs of trauma but elder abuse was suspected. The caretaker, Maria Moore, 70, who lived next door to the victim, was questioned and subsequently arrested on suspicion of elder abuse. She was booked into the Las Colinas jail for women.
Elder Abuse Wrongful Death Liability
Neglect of elderly adults has reached epidemic levels in California. Neglect and abuse is not unique to nursing homes and private care facilities; neglect also takes place in elderly adults' own homes. In tragic situations such as this one, the family of the victim would be well-advised to talk to an elder abuse lawyer about the family's options to pursue justice and hold the perpetrator and any other negligent parties responsible in a wrongful death claim. If the caretaker worked for an agency, the agency may also be financially liable for negligence that resulted in this woman's tragic and lonely death.

This victim is my Great Aunt. We are down for the memorial service and have many unanswered questions. The woman who is suspected of murdering my sweet 83yr 'Charmie' had kept her captive in her own home for possibly up to 3 months. Aparently as things went from bad to worse, several local agencies had responded to the residence prior to the discovery of her body. Would we have a better chance of filing wrongful death suit against county/state???
The asailant did not work for any agency. Rather, Maria Moore is a homless illegal immigrant who jumped a fence from Mexico and took over & ended the life of a simple woman who spent most days making roseries for St. Vincents church and was a sister to the nuns of Mount Carmel. Moore took all the savings and liquidated the assets and had transfered property under severe diress. Who is liable for that??? There is no money left to retain representation! Moore had nothing to loose, my only hope for resolve and restitution is the deportation of Moore and the 50/50 odds she will face upon her return to Mexico. Thats better than the odds my great aunt had of making it out of her home alive.
