A 16-year-old El Centro girl sadly died Saturday evening at UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, a week after a solo-vehicle accident on Austin Road in El Centro, the San Diego County Medical Examiner reported in a press release. The victim, Betsua Alonso, was a passenger in a Ford F-150 travelling south on Austin Road. For unknown reasons, the driver veered off the roadway, and then overcorrected, causing the pickup truck to veer into the Central Main Canal north of McCabe Road. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
